9 blasts rock Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, five injured

 


Patna (BiharTimes) At least five persons were reported injured in multiple bomb explosions near Mahabodhi temple in Bihar's Bodh Gaya. .

As many as 9 blasts were reported near temple. Most of the explosives were crude in nature.

According to Gaya police, the blasts took place in quick succession between 5.30 am and 6 am in the temple complex and near Mahabodhi tree. Two live bombs were also recovered from the spot.

According to reports, there was no damage to the structure of the Mahabodhi temple. A forensic team and a bomb disposal squad were rushed to the blast site.

The temple premises have been cordoned off. Reports say security has been beefed up in and around other religious sites of the district.

Mahabodhi is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage centres in Bihar and is also the state's most important tourist spot

Mahabodhi temple had been on the hit list of the terrorists and IB had sent an alert last week.

Two Tibetan pilgrims who have been injured are admitted in AM College at Gaya, police said.

CRPF personnel and fire tenders have been rushed to the spot.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has rushed a team to the blast site to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has reportedly left for the spot.
