Not so ‘caged’ marriage ceremony organized in Patna’s ministerial bungalow

Patna,(BiharTimes): Only three months back, while hearing the Coalgate scam, the Supreme Court called the CBI a caged parrot. Whatever it is, the marriage of the daughter of the director of country’s top investigative agency did raise several questions.

Though it was a private function and could have been organized anywhere in hotel, marriage hall, club or at any home, what came as a surprise is that it was held on Saturday in a ministerial bungalow just close to Raj Bhawan and chief minister’s residence. As to how he got it remains unanswered.

Among those present on the occasion were the governors of Bihar and Kerala. The noted absentee was none else but RJD chief Lalu Yadav who is said to have made him DG of RPF when he was the railway minister. It is said that Lalu did so in return for what Ranjit Sinha did as a CBI official in Bihar during the high time of fodder scam.

The BJP and Aam Admi Party leaders strongly criticized Ranjit’s appointment as CBI director last year. The BJP leaders alleged that he favoured Lalu Yadav when he was DIG CBI, while posted in Bihar.

But more than Lalu’s absence it was the presence of Subodh Kant Sahay, former Union minister, which created ripples in political circle. After all it was his brother’s involvement in Coalgate scam that forced Sahay to resign from the cabinet.

It is argued that he attended the marriage as he is a relative of Ranjit Sinha. Anyway Sahay could have skipped the marriage as did Lalu. But by being present in the ceremony he definitely want to give a signal of his proximity to the CBI boss.

Besides, Sahay would have been there not on his own, but on the invitation of Ranjit Sinha. Was it necessary for the latter to invite him when the CBI is probing the matter.

On July 19 the scene will shift to New Delhi where a grand reception would be organized. None else but President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi are likely to be the VVIP guests who will bless the new couple.

The notable BJP leaders who attended this function includes Sushil Kumar Modi who earlier  accused Sinha of going soft towards Lalu during fodder scam case, Shahnawaz Hussain and Shatrughan Sinha.

Will such an exercise not influence various investigatgions being carried by the CBI?
