Raids on woman ADM’s premises yield over Rs 20 cr assets

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Economic Offences Wing of Bihar police on Friday unearthed assets worth more than Rs 20 crore in bank deposits and jewellery during raids on five premises of woman additional district magistrate, Jayashree Thakur(54), posted in Bhagalpur district.

According to Police the seizures include Rs 16 crore in bank deposits and the rest in valuable jewellery. She also has rich collection of gold and silver jewellery valued at about Rs 50 lakh.

The sleuths unearthed documents of 17 plots of land worth Rs 1.66 crore in various parts of the state in the names of Jayashree’s relatives. She had acquired over 48 acres in Banka district during her earlier tenure there as the land acquisition officer.

Reports said that Jayashree’s husband is a lecturer in a college in Godda (Jharkhand).

When the EOU on Saturday opened her three bank lockers they found one of them empty while the other two were full of cash and jewellery.

IG (EOU) Praveen Vashist said one of the bank lockers had Rs 23 lakh cash and six LIC policies while in another locker documents related to fixed deposit of Rs 5 lakh and 377 gram gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered.

Earlier, the state Vigilance Bureau had also raided the premises of an executive engineer Satyendra Prasad Sinha posted in the rural works department at Muzaffarpur and seized papers related to investment of more than Rs 3.5 crore, besides Rs 31 lakh cash and gold ornaments.
