Congress rejects Bihar government’s conspiracy theory behind mid-day meal tragedy

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Congress party on Thursday rejected the conspiracy theory of the Bihar government behind the Saran mid-day meal tragedy.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi party spokesperson Raj Babbar, while referring to the statement of Bihar education minister, P K Shahi, said this is not proper. Making such statements would hurt the family members of children, who died in the tragedy.

A day after the incident Shahi hinted at the conspiracy angle behind the death of 23 kids.

Raj Babbar, however, said the Centre is neither trying to cover up the matter nor is it soft on anyone. It is just waiting for the probe report to come.

The Congress spokesman also made it clear that though the mid-day meal is a central scheme, the responsibility for its implementation lies with the state governments.

When asked whether it was not improper that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is yet to visit the village, Raj Babbar said he does not know why the chief minister had not gone there. However, he added that it is not good and should not have happened.

Incidentally, Congress had till now refrained from attacking the Nitish government ever since it dissociated itself with the BJP on June 16 last.
