Season of horse-trading starts as JD(U) hints at breaking away from BJP

Patna,(BiharTimes): With the Janata Dal (United) now openly giving enough hint of breaking away from BJP arrived the season of horse-trading in Bihar.

As JD(U) has 118 MLAs in the House of 243 it needs just four more to secure majority. For this the party has contacted some independent MLAs and even offered them ministerial berth as there would be a lot of vacancies after the resignation of BJP ministers––at least 40 per cent in the present cabinet.

Reports said that tat least two independent MLAs Binay Bihari and Pawan Jaiswa have assured their support to JDU.

Though getting just four MLAs is no big deal yet the JD(U) would like to create split and weaken all the opposition parties. It is confident that it may get at least outside support from the four-member Congress legislature party.

Only a few weeks back chief minister Nitish Kumar went all the way to attend the marriage of Congress MLA Tauseef Alam in Kishanganj district and met all the four party legislators on the occasion.

Speculation is rife that he may try to even break RJD and BJP. But the problem with these two parties is that very few legislators of RJD may cross over because they are now thinking that the fate of their party is on upswing. Regarding BJP it is less possible as, with 91 MLAs, it is too big a party. For causing split and avoiding anti-Defection law at least two-thirds legislators should be broken away. This would be around 60, which is not possible.

But even then the JD(U) is hoping of resignation by some MLAs. As there is a dozen seats kept vacant in the Legislative Council for the last many months the chief minister would certainly like to offer them as carrot.

On its part BJP does not want to take the blame for the split and do not want to send wrong signal to the voters. It is leaving upto the JD(U) to do so.
