BJP,JD(U) workers celebrate collapse of marriage of convenience

Patna,(BiharTimes): Divorce is often followed by remorse, regret and recollection of painful past. But here in Patna the workers of BJP and JD(U) on Sunday celebrated the break of 17 years old alliance. JD(U)––which was the first party other than the religion-based Akali Dal and Shiv Sena to give secular legitimacy to BJP––left the NDA on June 16 alleging that it is a communal party.

What is strange is that the party workers, unmindful, of the political impact the development would have, cheered the decision of the leadership. In the party office they distributed sweets, burst crackers and raised slogans and some of them openly abused Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders.

The scene in the BJP office, barely a furlong away on the same Bir Chand Patel Marg, was no different. Here too the mood was festive and party leaders and cadres were seen throwing gulal at each other.
It was mixture of both Diwali and Holi. Workers were seen distributing sweets to each other. Former minister Giriraj Singh was very much visible there.

Here too the party workers were using some printable and unprintable words and expressions for Nitish Kumar. Betrayer, Ghaddar, Dagabaaz etc were some of them.

Incidentally, there was little sign of celebration in RJD office which is situated in the vicinity of both JD(U) and BJP office, though there were visible signs of satisfaction and happiness in the party rank and file. The split in the NDA after the Maharajganj by-election victory was a big shot in arm for Lalu Yadav’s outfit.

Several political observers are flummoxed and bewildered over the way the workers of both the parties are behaving. They think that the celebration is totally pre-matured as split may weaken both the former constituents of the NDA––especially Janata Dal (United).

Most political observers are now saying that it is not the much-hyped propaganda of development which would bring vote. In fact it is the caste and social arithmetic which yields votes. In that way both the parties, JD(U), in particular, will have to do a lot of rethinking than just celebrate. The BJP on the other hand is banking just on Modi factor. It is to be seen whether it works in Bihar or not.
