Police seizes rifle from JD (U) worker near party office

Patna,(BiharTimes): A rifle was recovered from the car of a Janata Dal (United) worker, which was parked near the party’s state headquarters in Patna.

Ramnarain Patel, who comes from Gopalganj, has a questionable past and has been arrested several times. The police found him carrying a rifle in his car on Beerchand Patel Path on Tuesday when his party workers were clashing with the BJP supporters.

Sources said Kotwali police spotted him carrying a rifle and seized his car. However, Patel managed to ‘escape’.

Though, police said Patel has a licence for the rifle he was caught in the past for possessing unlicenced arms.

For example, in October 2011, he was charged under theArms Act and Section 307 of the IPC for his crime. In January 2012 also, he was arrested under Section 341 of the IPC for clash with others. The police had seized his licence which he got released after an order from the high court.

Media reports quoting senior police officials at the police headquarters said Gopalganj police erred in the sense that they should have sought the cancellation of his arms licence after he was caught in the Arms Act and attempt to murder case.
