Police confirm murder of abducted JD(U) MLA’s secretary

Patna,(BiharTimes): A fortnight after his abduction police on Monday confirmed that the personal secretary of Rupauli Janata Dal (United) MLA Bima Bharti has in fact been killed.

According to the police Santosh Mandal was beheaded and his body thrown into the Ganga. The police recovered his bloodstained shirt from the vehicle used for carrying him and arrested one person in this connection.

Two other accused surrendered before a court in Purnia.

Purnia SP, Kim, said the arrested person confessed that they beheaded Santosh and threw his body into the river. However, the body has not yet been recovered.

Bima Bharti had, on April 25, accused her estranged husband Awdhesh Mandal of abducting Santosh, who is in fact son of Lalganj mukhiya, Rekha Devi.

The MLA had lodged an FIR with Bhawanipur police station in this connection and named nine persons, including Awdhesh, who too was arrested earlier.

Earlier, on April 25 a large number of people staged blockade on the Purnia-Rupauli road in Purnia district in protest against the failure of the police to recover Santosh. The latter was reportedly abducted while he was returning to his home on his motorcycle from the MLA’s house at Bhitta under Akbarpur police station to his native village, Lalganj, under Rupauli police station at around 11:45 PM on April 23.
