Bihar to involve PPP to cut transmission and distribution losses in power sector

Patna,(BiharTimes): To reduce high transmission and distribution (T&D) losses the Bihar government has decided to take the help of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, Sanjeev Paundrik, said the government is planning to privatise energy distribution network in more than a dozen towns of the state. He hoped that the losses would be considerably reduced in the next two years and thus the power situation would improve.

He said the erstwhile Bihar State Electricity Board has been unbundled into five separate companies for holding, generation, transmission and distribution. The state government has also set up a Joint Venture with PowerGrid to strength transmission network and is is also developing several new grids with the help of private partners.
