Shahi, Prabhunath file nomination papers for Maharajganj election

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal nominee Prabhunath Singh and Congress candidate, Jitendra Swami, on Tuesday filed their nomination for the Maharajganj by-election.

Earlier on Monday education minister P K Shahi filed his papers as the Janata Dal (United) candidate.
Jitendra Swami is the son of former RJD MP Uma Shankar Singh, on whose death the by-election has been necessitated. He has once contested the MP election in thje past too.

The Congress decision to put up its candidate has made the contest triangulear and made it clear that it has no truck with RJD. Both Swami and Prabhunath are Rajput while Shahi a Bhumihar.

Earlier on Monday the state Congress chief Ashok Choudhary met the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence in New Delhi to brief her about the party's ongoing programmes in Bihar and Maharajganj by-election as well.

Reports said that after father’s death Swami tried his best to get the JD(U) ticket for the by-election. But as JD(U) announced Shahi’s candidature, he went on to join the Congress.
