Scientist calls on Sushil Modi to seek release of abducted father

Patna,(BiharTimes): Ajit Kumar, a scientist with the Department of Atomic Energy, Heavy Water Board, Mumbai, is running from pillar to post as his father has been abducted by criminals in Jamui district of Bihar.

On Tuesday he called on the deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi while he was holding his Janata Darbar. But the meeting generated little hope. Though the deputy chief minister talked to the Munger range deputy inspector-general (DIG) Sudhanshu Kumar the 28 year old Ajit is not satisfied with the approach of the police.

He has one regret that his father did not pay heed to the repeated request to leave the state and live with him in Mumbai as nothing has changed in Bihar.

His father Baikunth Modi (58), a fabric trader, was abducted on May 5 morning when he went to offer puja.

Ajit hails from Jamui and did his B Tech (Electrical) from Bhagalpur Engineering College in 2009.
He told a section of media that he asked his father many times not to stay in Bihar as nothing has changed nor would anything change here.

Narrating the incident he said his father left home at Nabinagar village under Jamui Town block to pray at a Shiva temple around 8 in the morning. The temple is at Panchvardan Dham, just 1.5km away from the home. Usually, he returns by 10am but when he did not come back his mother Urmila Devi called him in the evening to say his father had not yet returned. Around 8pm, she received a call from his father’s mobile in which the abductor demanded Rs 30 lakh for his release.

He said he received another call on May 6 from the abductor after he reached Jamui. Upon this Ajit lodged an FIR.

He said his mother is not well and had to be hospitalized a couple of days back.

Ajit’s eldest brother Sanjeev Kumar (34) is a Deputy General Manager (Electrical) with NTPC, Barh while another one, Ranjeet Kumar (30), is preparing for civil services exam in Delhi. His sister Padma is an assistant engineer with Bihar State Power (Holding) Company.

Jamui SP Deepak Barnwal confirmed that three abductors have been arrested and the car in which Baikunth was taken away found. But Baikunth himself has not yet been recovered.
