Six-member panel on special status norms to meet on Tuesday

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): The first meeting of the advisory committee constituted by the Centre on May 15 to revisit the criteria to determine backwardness of states would be held on Tuesday in New Delhi. The six-member committee is headed by chief economic adviser of the Union ministry of finance, Raghuram G Rajan. It also includes the name of Shaibal Gupta, member-secretary of Patna-based Asian Development Research Institute. The other four members are Bharat Ramaswamy, Jamia Millia Islamia VC Najeeb Jung, Neerja G Jayal and Tuhin Pandey.

It has been asked to evolve a composite development index of underdeveloped states. The committee would submit its report within 60 days of its constitution.

The states whose cases would be studied by the committee are Bihar, Odisha and Rajasthan. They have been demanding the special status category for quite a long time.
