JD(U) to organize 13 Sankalp conventions in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): The ruling Janata Dal (United) has decided to organize Sankalp Sammelan (Pledge Convention) at 13 places in the state in December and January next.

The move has been undertaken to, what the party claims, expose the betrayal by the BJP. Besides, the party would seek support for special category status for Bihar.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar will attend all the conventions.

According to the state JD(U) president Vashistha Narain Singh the party will constitute the booth-level committees in all the 243 Assembly constituencies by November 15. He told the media that it was decided at the party’s Rajgir Chintan Shivir (brainstorming camp) to hold Sankalp Sammelan at Gaya, Motihari (East Champaran), Bettiah (West Champaran), Mohania (Kaimur), Darbhanga, Saharsa, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Munger, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai and either Patna City or Fatuha in Patna district.

Countering BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, will be the main target of the party.

The state president said that the repeated visit of Modi to the state was aimed at disrupting the communal harmony in Bihar and polarize the society.

Vashishtha Narayan Singh said that If Modi was so sincere about victims’ tears, he should have met families of those killed in a number of such incidents in his own state, especially during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

He took strong exception to a large number of Gujarat police officers accompanying Modi during his second visit to Bihar. He added police of another state taking law and order in their hands infringes upon India’s federal structure.

A couple of days back the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, K C Tyagi, had made a similar statement. He had said that till now the Centre had been intervening in the affairs of state, but now one state is interfering in day to day affairs of other state. This is totally uncalled for and unwarranted.

As the party chief was holding the Press conference a group of youths and students of Patna joined the Janata Dal (United). Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, R C P Singh, and others were present on the occasion.
