Martha Dodray from Bihar honoured by UN Foundation for polio work


Patna,(BiharTimes): Martha Dodray, a polio worker originally from Darbhanga in Bihar, was recently honoured at the Global Leadership Awards Dinner of 2013 hosted by the UN Foundation and the UN Association of USA in New York city.

In a statement she said she was delighted, humbled and honoured by the award. “We need to work together to eliminate polio from regions where the disease still exists,” she said. Martha said she never thought that she would come to the US and meet global dignitaries who would appreciate her work.
Apart from Dodray, Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan got the award for championing the cause of girls’ education in her country.
Other recepients are the US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power (for her fierce commitment to human rights), General Electric, Africa (for work in improving health care for women and children through the Secretary-General’s “Every Woman Every Child” movement); filmmakers “10x10” who created “Girl Rising” to raise awareness of the importance of girls’ education.
