Is JD(U) desperate to seek tie up with Congress?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Stressing the need for an alliance among the secular parties JD(U) general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, Shivanand Tiwari, on Friday regretted that Congress is not doing enough in this direction.

There must be love for each other to take any relationship further, he told reporters in a reply to a question on the possibility of electoral tie up between his party and Congress for the Lok Sabha election in Bihar.

A couple of months back Tiwari had said that he was personally for an alliance with the Congress as the era of anti-Congressism is over. Incidentally, his statement came on the day when LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan too called for early RJD-LJP-Congress tie up.

While RJD-LJP-Congress alliance is understandable as they have contested elections together in the past any such move by Janata Dal (United) indicates the desperation of the party. PPolitical observers are of the view that many in JD(U), particularly Tiwari, has repeatedly talked of the emergence of the BJP and shrinking base  of Janata Dal (United). Some observers have gone to the extent of stating that the Lok Sabha poll may end up becoming a BJP versus RJD-LJP battle with JD(U) relegated to the third position.

Tiwari, who has been keeping low profile since the Chintan Shivir speech on October 29 is reportedly not happy with the way of functioning of chief minister Nitish Kumar.

What is strange is that Shivanand’s statement came a fortnight after Nitish attend a meeting of Third Front leaders in New Delhi on October 30.

Interestingly, after saying all this Tiwari said it is for JD(U) leadership to decide on the tie up with the Congress.
