State-level woman athlete assaulted in Jehanabad, says will quit game

Patna,(BiharTimes): A state-level athlete was allegedly assaulted just outside the Jehanabad railway station on Wednesday afternoon. The seriously injured athlete was first taken to the Sadar hospital of Jehanabad and then referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital.

A local commuter told the BiharTimes that the incident took place just outside the railway station near the auto-rickshaw stand at around1:00 PM. The athlete was sexually assaulted after she came down from an EMU from Gaya.

It is said that she was beaten up in the presence of so many people after she protested a bid to molest her.

She said that two to three youths passed lewd remarks on her. However, only one of them was involved in the assault.

The woman athlete said that she is giving up the game as it needs regular practice early in the morning. Whenever she would go to practice these youths would pass vulgar comments on her.

According to Superintendent of Police, Jehanabad, Shyali Dhurat, the woman athlete was returning home here from Gaya after attending a training programme when some youths, who also alighted from the same train, accosted her and later started beating her. The SP, who met the athlete in the hospital, said she was complaining of serious pain in stomach.

So far one person has been arrested in this connection.

The incident came only four days after 93 school girls of Dhanbad were sexually assaulted in running Patna-Dhanbad Ganga Damodar Express, on Saturday night. That train too passes via Jehanabad and Gya. The youths involved in that case were on way to Koderma to appear in a railway exam and they all boarded train in Patna.
