Rules for organ transplant notified in Bihar

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): To remove the legal barriers in transplantation of human organs in the state the Bihar government has notified the rules related to Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 2002. 

According to Principal Secretary, Health, Deepak Kumar an appropriate authority headed by director-in-chief, health services, Surendra Prasad, has been formed. The authority will allow any hospital to go ahead with transplantations if the hospital concerned has infrastructure and manpower as per the prescribed norms.

The committee also comprises eminent doctors. An authorization committee will also be constituted for live donations, that will check whether any commercial or other interests are involved in donation.

The rules said that the hospitals undertaking transplantation must have 24-hour availability of medical and surgical staff, nurses, trained anaesthetists, multiple discipline facilities like microbiology, biochemistry, pathology and haematology. 

Other than the experts required for the relevant transplantation, experts related to internal medicine, diabetology, gastroenterology etc have also to be available.

The notification has been welcomed by prominent doctors of Patna. They, however, called for the creation of necessary infrastructure.
