Ramai Ram announces his candidature from Hajipur Lok Sabha seat

Patna,(BiharTimes): A minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, Ramai Ram on Wednesday announced that he would be contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Hajipur parliamentary seat.

This seat is already represented by Janata Dal (United)’s Ram Sundar Das, who is in his 90s. Das served as the chief minister of Bihar in 1979-80.

Indicating that he had already got a green signal from the chief minister Nitish Kumar the revenue and land reform minister Ramai Ram declared that he would definitely contest from Hajipur parliamentary constituency.

However, he added if Ram Sundar Das fights then he has no objection. “If not I would contest,” he added.

However, some partymen are not pleased with the way Ramai Ram has staked his claim on the seat. Some of them said that this amounts to blackmailing the leadership.

Political observers are of the view that Ramai Ram has many times said that he had been feeling suffocated within the party. In that way he may even think of crossing over to some other party if denied ticket by JD(U). As the main opposition RJD––to which he earlier belonged––is most likely to support LJP president and former MP, Ram Vilas Paswan from Hajipur, Ramai Ram may in that situation join the BJP, which is badly in need of prominent Mahadalit face.
