Raj Bhavan constitutes search panel to select VCs, pro-VCs

Patna,(BiharTimes): Raj Bhavan on Tuesday announced the constitution of the search committees for appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs) and pro-VCs in 11 universities of the state. October 23 was the last date for submitting applications for the posts.

Incidentally, it was the 78th birthday of the Governor-cum-Chancellor D Y Patil on Tuesday. He was in Mumbai on Tuesday.

All the chairmen and members are reputed academics of from different premier institutions the country. The state government had already sent to the Chancellor the names of its five nominees as members of the search committees. No academician or former vice-chancellor from Bihar has been made the chairman of any of the 11 search committees.

Sudhir Kumar Sopory, the vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, has been made the chairman of the search committee for appointment of vice-chancellors and pro-vice chancellors of Patna University (PU) and B N Mandal University, Madhepura.

The other members for the PU search committee are N S Gajbhiye, the VC of Dr Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), and A. Lakshminath, the VC of Chanakya National Law University, Patna. While Sopory and Gajbhiye are Raj Bhavan nominees, Lakshminath is the state government nominee.

R C Sobti, the vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Univesrity, Lucknow, (a central university) has been made the chairman of the search committee of Magadh University (MU), Bodh Gaya, B R Ambedkar University, Muzaffarpur and J P University, Chapra.

The other members of the search committee are M M Salunkhe, the VC of Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer, and former VC of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, N R Madhava Menon.

Prof Syed Ehtesham Hasnain, former VC of Central University of Hyderabad and presently J C Bose National Fellow, School of Biological of Sciences, IIT Delhi, will head the committee for Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga and Veer Kuer Singh University, Ara. Prof Jai Roop Singh of Central University of Punjab and Prof N R Madhavan Menon are other two members. B R Ambedkar Open University’s former VC and National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s former director V S Prasad, chairman, Central University of Orissa VC Surabhi Banerjee and A N Sinha Institute of Social Studies director D M Diwakar, members (for Nalanda Open University).

Prof A M Paithan will be the chairman for Maulana Mazhar-ul-Haque Arabic and Persian University. Prof Mohammad Miyan, VC Maulana Azad National Urdu University and Prof Kalimuddin Ahmed Aziz, chairman, Consultative Committee on Urdu will be two members.

The former VC of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University, K V Ramakrishnamacharyulu, will be the chairman for Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University. Acharya Kishore Kunal, IPS, and Maharshi Panini Sanskrit and Vedic University VC, Mithila Prasad Tripathi will be its two members.
