Bihar DGP rejects Sushil Modi’s allegations on Yasin Bhatkal’s arrest

Patna,(BiharTimes): A day after strong criticism of Bihar Police by the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party, especially by the former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, the director general of police, Abhayanand refuted the charge that the Nitish government played vote bank politics by not taking the custody of Yasin Bhatkal and Asadullah Akhtar.

Talking to the media on Saturday morning Abhayanand said the police had acted as per the provisions of the law and there was no question of taking credit all alone.

As the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has cases against him, it took him into custody. It would have been incorrect for the Bihar Police to take full credit of the arrest, since the alerts had come from the Intelligence Bureau. Without their intelligence, it would not have been possible for the Bihar Police to nab them. It is a commendable job for the Indian Police. The forces of several states were involved in this operation, he added.

He said everything was done according to what’s mandated in law. The Bihar Police helped the National Investigation Agency and Intelligence Bureau in making the arrest. The state police also participated with these central agencies in the interrogations. Thus the allegations are baseless.

The state police chief said there had to be viable grounds for seeking remand for taking the custody of Yasin and Asadullah Akhtar.

Abhayanand explained in detail as to how after the arrest of Yasin and Asadullah in Raxaul in East Champaran district at around 8 AM on Thursday, the Bihar Police took them to a forest in Bettiah in neighbouring West Chamaparan district for interrogation.

The two were interrogated in the forest for about three hours by NIA, IB and Bihar Police. An SP rank officer of Bihar Police was involved in it. They were then taken to Motihari to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

They were then brought to Patna by road where they were interrogated for the whole night at the high-security Bihar Military Police camp.

From Patna they were both taken in a special plane to Delhi.

“Thus we cooperated in arrest, production and interrogation. We provided strict security, which is very vital. We helped both the central agencies quite actively,” he added.
