Teachers’ Day function: Absence of woman award recipient surprises Nitish


Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar was on Thursday surprised over the absence of any name of woman teacher in the list of eight awarded on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. 
Addressing the occasion he asked education department officials to ensure that women teachers also get award every year on this occasion.
Nitish honoured eight teachers of the state government for their contribution in the field of education. He said no award or honour is complete without the inclusion of women. So, they must be included in the list even if the number has to be increased, he added.
On the midday meal tragedy in Saran district he said there is need to be very alert to prevent further incident. They should give extra attention on the maintenance of hygiene while cooking food. He also asked mothers to play an important role in school management committees.
The state government launched a two-year training programme for teachers besides other schemes.
According to the programme, the State Council of Educational Research and Training would train around 40,000 teachers at elementary schools. 
The teachers would then get a diploma in elementary education (DEd).
Speaking on the occasion, state education minister Prashant Kumar Shahi said his department aimed at completing appointment of teachers by the end of the year to bridge the student-teacher ratio. 

Principal secretary, Education, Amarjeet Sinha, said 65-75% students in Bihar attended school regularly.
