Work starts on IIT-Patna campus after a fortnight

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though the farmers have not yet given up their stir, construction work at the proposed site for the IIT Patna (IIT-P) near Amhara village in Bihta block, some 35 km from the state capital, started on Saturday.
The work started on Saturday amid deployment of 200 jawans of Bihar Military Police, District Armed Police and other forces.
The work was suspended about a fortnight back after the farmers launched an agitation and fast-unto-death to press their demands, which include proper payment of compensation for the land acquired by the state government for IIT and other institutions.
Though IIT is built by the central government the acquisition of land is done by the state government, which acquired 1,700 acres of land. Of this it gave 500 acres to the IIT and rest was left for some other institutes.
Reports from Bihta said that senior officials of the IIT-Patna and National Building Construction Corporation reached the campus site on Saturday after over 100 workers started construction activities early in the morning.
ADM, Danapur SDO and Deputy SP, DCLR, Danapur BDO, CO and officer in charge, Bihta police station, were present. The officers are still camping at the site.
The officers also went to Dilawarpur village where agitating farmers are sitting on fast since August 25.
The administration appealed to the agitating farmers not to disturb the construction work, which the latter agreed. But their fast continued.
However, the district administration has so far not accepted the demand of farmers for “one project, one rate.”
