Don Ajay Singh literally takes over as Sahitya Sammelan chief

Patna,(BiharTimes): Exactly two years back Ajay Kumar Singh hurriedly got married during Pitripaksha, which is not considered auspicious by many Hindus. He did so to get the Assembly ticket for his new wife as he himself was not eligible to contest it because of criminal cases. The seat was vacated after the death of his mother, a Janatga Dal (United) MLA.
He reportedly married because the chief miniter Nitish Kumar then told him that he could give party ticket to his newly wed-wife.
Once again on the eve of Pitripaksha on Tuesday the same Ajay did something unique. He “took over” as president of Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan (BHSS), an organization of writers set up in 1919.
Ironically, it was once headed by Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, and scholars like Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Benipuri had in the past been associated with it.
This sudden move by the controversial Janata Dal (United) leader had compelled Anil Sulabh, who still claims to be the president of Sahitya Sammelan, and some of its members to seek the police help.
Sulabh led a delegation to DGP Abhayanand and submitted a memorandum against Ajay Singh. The DGP told the media that he had directed DSP Manoj Tiwari to supervise the case. He would take necessary action on the FIR.
The petition against Ajay Singh said "people with criminal background have taken over the organization". It said Ajay Singh took over as the president after 250 people having nothing to do with literature supported his nomination.
What is strange is that Ajay publicly declared that he had taken the step on his second marriage anniversary, with Kavita Singh, who soon after marriage won the by-election.
Ajay further said that he had decided to take charge on the auspicious day to clean the Sahitya Sammelan. He claimed that he was elected unopposed at its recent executive committee meeting after the term of the previous head expired. He said he would leave the organization after getting it rid from undesirable elements.
He told the media that he would develop it into an excellent organization and open its branches across the state.
Stating that he has no lust for money he denied the allegation that he had taken over the office in Nallah Road in Patna to sell its huge property.
“I love writers,” was what 35 year old Ajay, who claimed that he had resumed study, said.
There is no denying the fact that Ajay faces about 20 criminal cases, including that of murder. It is alleged that on Tuesday Ajay landed at the institution along with his armed bodyguards and supporters and removed the existing nameplates from there in a bid to take over the institution. This is despite the fact that the election of president is scheduled to take place on October 5 and 6.
Ajay Singh, however, said that he had to step in because the hallowed institution had become a centre of loot and that he had taken it upon myself to restore its glory.
He promised to generate funds for it from the state government and Rajya Sabha MPs from the state.
He accused Sulabh of using fake voters to ensure his victory in the past.
Meanwhile, noted writer Usha Kiran Khan has asked the state government to take over the Sahitya Sammelan management, set up a committee and free it from anti-social elements. She said a leading Hindi scholar should be appointed its chairman.
