State govt fulfils villagers demand of alternative road near Nalanda University

Patna,(BiharTimes): Fulfilling the demand for Kuberpur villagers for an alternative passage, the state government has decided to lay a 3.5km road for them near Nalanda University.

According to reports the state rural works department is expected to start the road construction work within two months and would be completed within four months.

“Approval has been given for constructing a road from Kuberpur to the CRPF camp, 4.5km west of Virayatan (eye hospital). As villagers have agreed to the road plan, we expect the remaining part of the boundary wall to be erected soon,” Chandra Mohan, the block development officer (BDO) of Rajgir, was quoted in The Telegraph as saying.

Kuberpur village is on the southwest side of the sprawling Nalanda University campus. The boundary wall of the University could not be erected on a stretch of around 20ft on the southwest-end of the upcoming campus because of stiff opposition from the villagers of Kuberpur.

They claimed that the boundary wall would block their only existing pathway to the Rajgir-Chhabilapur road along the northern side of the campus, the villagers compelled the agency engaged in the work to leave a gap in the wall.

The villagers said that if the boundary is constructed they would have to take a detour of around 10km to reach the Rajgir-Chhabilapur road.

At present, they have to walk only two km through the varsity campus to reach the Rajgir-Chhabilapur road. After the new road is laid, they would have to walk around 3.5km to reach the main road.

Reports said that now that the state government has decided to build an alternative road they are not averse to walk 3.5 km for an international university in their vicinity.
