High Court orders reconstruction of wall around BIADA land in Bhajanpura

Patna,(BiharTimes): A single bench of Justice Kishore Kumar Mandal of Patna high court on September 23, had ordered the Araria district magistrate and superintendent of police to get the damaged wall on the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) land at Bhajanpura in Forbesganj sub-division of the district reconstructed within five weeks.

The court also asked the district administration to play a proactive role in industrial development and directed the chief secretary and home secretary to monitor the wall reconstruction work at Bhajanpura.
It needs to be recalled that on June 3, 2011 four Muslims––including an infant and a pregnant woman––of Bhajanpura were brutally killed in police firing when they protested against the construction of wall as they said it was being erected on the road.

The owners of Rs 135-crore Auro Sundaram Glucose Factory wanted to set up a glucose and starch factory on the 35 acres of land allotted to them by BIADA.

It was in October 2012 that the Auro Sundaram Glucose Factory had filed a habeas corpus petition in the high court following the June 3, 2011 police firing. The court had then put the work on factory under hold.

The Bihar government had instituted a judicial inquiry headed by retired Patna High Court judge Madhvendra Sharan. The commission had made the hearing but it is yet to submit the report.

Since the firm, Auro Sundaram Glucose Factory, belonged to the son of BJP MLC, Ashok Agrawal, it caused a lot of political storm.

However, Ashok was arrested a few months later on the charge of murdering his own petrol pump employee.

The high court ruling is being interpreted as a reprieve to the Factory and setback to the local people.
