Nitish urges Hamid Ansari, Meira to name CUBs after after Gautam Budda, Mahatama Gandhi

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday urged Vice President Hamid Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to see to it that the two new central universities which is to come up in Gaya and Motihari be named after Gautam Buddha and Mahatama Gandhi respectively.

Speaking at the First Convocation of the Central University of Bihar (CUB) in Patna Nitish made the plea to them to use their good offices to get the two CUBs named after Buddha and Gandhi as the two places are associated with them.

While the one will be located in Gaya, known for Gautam Buddha’s enlightenment, the other one will be located at Motihari in East Champaran, where Gandhiji launched his Satyagraha movement in 1916-17.
He told the two dignitaries present on the occasion that the Bills related to the universities are expected soon hence it would be an honour for the people and the state if the two universities are named after Buddha and Gandhi.

Nitish said the state government had alloted Rs 200 crore for acquiring 300 acres of land at Motihari while in Gaya the land belongs to Defence Ministry hence there was no problem in availability for building campus of the two universities.

Addressing the Convocation Vice President Hamid Ansari pointed to poor implementation of human rights in the country and stressed on education as a solution.

"In a vibrant and robust democracy like ours, there is no shame in acknowledging that faults and the lacunae that exist in the policies and institutions pertaining to human rights," Ansari said.

Speaker Meira Kumar, who is also Chancellor of the Central University of Bihar, in her address emphasised that education should not only be the source of livelihood, but should be a tool to stamp out old and outdated tradition fomenting social discrimination.
