Congress complains to poll panel against Modi

New Delhi, April 4 : The Congress Friday approached the Election Commission demanding action against Narendra Modi, saying that the BJP's prime ministerial candidate had sought to provoke religious sentiments by referring to slaughter of cattle in a speech in Bihar.

Congress' legal and human rights department secretary K.C. Mittal said that Modi had referred to cows, subsidies and slaughter houses in his speech at Nawada April 2.

"The cow is a sacred animal and has a special place in Hindu mythology. The statement made by Narendra Modi referring to cows, Lord Krishna, the grant of subsidy and slaughter houses and the tone and tenor of his public address is clearly with a purpose to arouse communal feelings for seeking votes," he said.

"It is requested that immediate action may be taken against Narendra Modi and BJP for violating model code of conduct," Mittal said.
