Patna,(BiharTimes): In view of a acute shortage of teachers the Jitan Ram Manjhi cabinet on Tuesday gave a nod to the appointment of contractual lecturer as per honorarium fixed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in nine universities and 250 affiliated colleges of Bihar.

According to Brajesh Mehrotra, principal secretary, cabinet secretariat, the lecturers would be paid at the rate of Rs 25,000 per month or Rs 1,000 per class.

There are in all 2,000 vacancies in the state.

The cabinet empowered the VC-headed committees to appoint teachers on ad hoc basis as per the guidelines of the UGC.

This system would be in place till teachers are appointed by the Bihar Public Service Commission.
