Villagers see no ray of hope in solar-grid, seek ‘asli bijli’ from Nitish

Patna,(BiharTimes): Residents of Dharnai village under Makhdumpur block of Jehanabad district raised the slogan “Hamen nakli nahin, asli bijli chahiye (We do not want fake electricity, but the real one,)" when former chief minister Nitish Kumar recently went there to see how it looks at night after Greenpeace India set up a solar-powered micro-grid there a fortnight back.
Though the grid illuminated the streets and houses villagers appear far from satisfied as they want “asli bijli” (real electricity) from the government.
The youths of the village carried placards demanding “real source of energy”, and “not the fake solar powered” one.
As the experiment of solar lamp in Bihar has not been good, especially after the solar scam––and it is a bit costly too––the villagers instead of thanking the Greenpeace, an organization working for better environment, and greeting Nitish Kumar, sought the real electricity. They fear that the electricity provided by solar grid may disappear from the village as it did 33 years ago in 1981.
The 100-kW micro-grid was installed at a cost of Rs three crore.
Nitish, an electrical engineer, had a couple of years back, announced that he would not come to seek votes if his government fails to provide electricity to all the villages of the state by 2015 Assembly election. It is other thing that he resigned on May 17 after his party, Janata Dal (United), suffered a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha election.
