Lalu steals the show at Hajipur joint campaign with Nitish

Patna,(BiharTimes): RJD chief Lalu Prasad stole the show at the first joint election campaign he had with the Chote Bhai Nitish Kumar in 23 years.

Speaking in Hajipur he paid back the BJP chief Amit Shah in the same coin by stating: “Hum bada bhai hain godh mein mere nahin ayega to tumhare godh meing jayega.” (I am his elder brother. Will not he come to my lap, instead of yours.)

Lalu not only hit back at Amit Shah’s Saturday remarks that Nitish had left the BJP to sit in the lap of Lalu Prasad’s RJD though he would always equate the 15 years rule between 1990 and 2005 with the Jungle Raj.

But Lalu not only tried to silence the BJP, but also sent the message loud and clear that it was he who is politically elder to Nitish and that he had more say in the grand alliance.

In fact he addressed the election meeting after Nitish––and that too for much longer duration––making it clear as to who was the main speaker.

Though Lalu was very much as usual Nitish was not in full flow though he did attack the saffron brigade with his own arguments. He conceded that there were differences (with Lalu), but now that the country is facing such a challenge the need of the hour is to join hands against the common rival.

After 17 years long association with the BJP Nitish was reminded of the fact that none of the leading lights of the Sangh Parivar took part in freedom movement or went to jail fighting the British. Lalu picked up from there to say: Not to speak of freedom movement even during the Emergency the Sangh Parivar leaders begged for clemency to get released from jails.

The crowd might not have been massive, but was not even poor given the fact that the news of the joint campaign of the two leaders in Hajipur––and later in the day at Mohiuddinnagar––was made public only on Sunday (August 10). Earlier reports suggested that they would share dais at Chapra on August 16.
The crowd was more responsive when Lalu spoke.

Both Nitish and Lalu targeted media in their own way. At the very outset Nitish said that “now that we both are together at one platform all the speculations created by the media came to an end.”

Lalu ridiculed the television channels for repeatedly showing the Bullet train of Japan to highlight the Modi government’s claim of running this superfast train.

Both Nitish and Lalu teased the NDA government over the stand with Pakistan. Nitish said that the BJP whipped up anti-Pakistan emotion during the election campaign as if it would be attacked just after the party comes to power. He asked as to when would the Muslims be pushed to that country?

Lalu took the name of BJP MP Giriraj Singh to ask when would the Muslims be sent packing to Pakistan and their property captured?

Taking a pot shot the RJD chief said in his FIR after theft in his house Giriraj had said that he lost Rs 85,000. Thanks to the police of Jitan Ram Manjhi and Nitish Kumar the truth came out soon and police recovered more than Rs one crore, all withdrawn from banks in Gujarat, besides hundreds of dollars and what not.

Nitish explained as to how poor and depressed people were misguided during the election campaign of Narendra Modi. He talked about Ganga-Jamuni ‘sanskriti’ and said Vaishali is the district where the first republic was formed.

By targeting Giriraj Singh on the issue of sending people to Pakistan both Nitish and Lalu tried to woo Muslims, whose vote got divided in the last Lok Sabha election. Apart from backward castes and mahadalit votes they are hopeful of getting the Muslim votes.
