Manjhi takes U turn on bribe giving issue

 


Patna (BiharTimes):  Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Thursday took a U-turn on Thursday from his earlier saying that corruption is widely prevalent in the state. He went ahead saying in a government programme that he as  minister had to pay a bribe of Rs 5,000 to get recast an inflated energy bill of Rs 25,000.

Manjhi clarifying his earlier statement said that the incident was of 1994 when Lalu Prasad, not Nitish Kumar, was the chief minister and that his son paid only Rs 200, not Rs 5,000, to the electricity department employee concerned.  

He also mentioned that the amount of Rs 200 was given to the electricity board employee for sweets. He also justified his act saying that the employee worked hard for getting his work done.

His earlier statement created a major embarrassment to his leader Nitish Kumar who never forgets of making toll claims to fight corruption in Bihar.

He also accused media for distorting his statement he termed it as “mamuli bat”.
