Bihar woman police official accuses senior of sexual assault

Patna, Dec 29 (IANS) A woman sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) has alleged sexual assault by the superintendent of police (SP) in Bihar's Kaimur district, officials said, adding that a probe has been ordered into the allegation.

Bhabhua's SDPO Nirmala Kumari has lodged a complaint at the woman police station in the district against the district superintendent of police Pushkar Anand.

Anand is a 2009 Bihar cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

"She has accused Anand of betraying and cheating her after sexually exploiting her for months by promising marriage. Later, he and his family refused to go ahead with the marriage," a police official of ADG rank at police headquarters here said.

A three-member committee including two IGs is probing the matter.

"Action will be taken against any of the two police officials found guilty in the case after the probe," said Bihar Police chief P.K. Thakur.

According Nirmala, she met Anand nearly three years ago and both became friends and came close to each other. Anand sexually exploited her after promising marriage. But when she insisted on it, he refused to marry and started misbehaving with her.

However, Anand told IANS over telephone that allegations against him were baseless.

"...She has levelled false charges against me to pressurize me to marry her. If she has any proof, she is free to bring forth it," he said.
