Work in varsities hit as non-teaching employees go on strike

Patna,(BiharTimes): Work in all the nine universities of Bihar were paralysed as 33,000 non-teaching employees of 250 colleges under nine universities of the state went on indefinite strike on Tuesday.

The strike is likely to affect the Intermediate (Plus-II) examination, which is scheduled to start on February 15.

The trade union of non-teaching employees alleged that the state government had failed to fulfil their demands, which include pay revision, even though it promised to do so when they went to strike last time. They said that even the court ruling is not being implemented.

They said that they do not want to play with the career of the students, but it is the state government which is responsible for it as the information of the phase-wise agitation was given a couple of months back.

Meanwhile, principal secretary, education, Amarjeet Sinha, has appealed to the striking employees to call off their strike as the state government has fulfilled most of their demands. He said that legal action would be taken if the employees tried to create disturbance in the examination.

Plus-II students are a harried lot as many of them have not got their admit card.
