Dissension spreads in BJP as C P Thakur opposes alliance with LJP

Patna,(BiharTimes): Dissension has spread in the Bharatiya Janata Party on the likely tie-up with the Lok Janshakti Party. After Ashwani Kumar Choubey it is the party’s national vice president, Dr C P Thakur, who said that any such move would prove disastrous for the saffron party.

Thakur, along with some party leaders, are likely to rush to New Delhi to meet the central leadership to stall any such alliance. The first to raise the banner of revolt on Monday was the former minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey, who called the LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan as corrupt, casteist, and the one who promoted dynasty and family rule. He also charged the LJP chief with conspiring to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister of the country.

Dr Thakur, who served as the Union health minister in the Vajpayee cabinet, also spoke on the same line. He is the first national level leader of the party to come out openly against the move.

Meanwhile, reports say that the architects of the alliance the former deputy chief minister, Sushil Kumar Modi and national general secretary, Dharmendra Pradhan, along with the state party chief Mangal Pandey, and leader of the opposition in the state Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, are already camping in New Delhi.

What the opponents of the alliance with the LJP fear most is that after the tie up with Paswan and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) the saffron party may lose a large chunk of upper caste votes. The two leaders are known for their stand on upper castes, who now form the backbone of the party.
