Patna,(BiharTimes): When politicians and women’s rights activists are busy condemning the setting ablaze of a 16-year old “Bihar ki beti” (after she was repeatedly gangraped) in Kolkata, the mother of a Bengali girl abducted from her home in Muzaffarpur about 16 months back sat on fast-unto-death on the premises of the Town police station on Thursday to demand the recovery of her 12-year old daughter and CBI probe into the matter.
Maitree Chakravarty rejected the request of the principal hone secretary Amir Shubhani to defer her indefinite fast as the state government was once again recommending CBI inquiry into the kidnapping of her daughter, Navruna.
She was kidnapped from her Jawaharlal Road house on September 18 night in 2012.
According to Navruna's father Atulya Chakravarty, the home secretary had sent him a message on his mobile phone two days back promising him to once again recommend CBI inquiry into the case. But, till now, no such recommendation had been made in writing.
Besides, he said, there was no guarantee the state government would not back out from extending co-operation to the CBI once again to help its tainted officers and politicians allegedly involved in the abduction.
Atulya said he had no knowledge about the progress in the investigation particularly during the last three months when the government last recommended CBI probe. Despite his best efforts during the period, no one from the government responded to his queries. It is very difficult to rely on the state government’s assurance, he added.
Maitree and her another daughter had met the chief minister Nitish Kumar at his Janata Darbar a few months back where he assured CBI investigation into the matter.
The fast unto death has given a new twist as the opposition parties have decided to lent support to it.
Some members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by their district spokesman, Hem Narain Vishwakarma, also sat on fast to demand release of Navruna from the clutches of kidnappers.
