Pune and Nagpur which were in the top 10 cities of the survey last year has slipped to 12th and 13th rank for reasons of low housing options and natural environment. Other cities which have shown an
upward trend in the list include Shimla, 15th, Mysrore, 17th. Surat,20th, Dehra Dun 22nd, Guwahati 23rd and Srinagar 35th.

Cities, which have fallen from their previous positions are Vijaywada, Vadodara and Asansol.

The five least liveable cities, according to survey, are Agra, Raipur, Asansol, Kanpur and Patna.

The survey has been done on eight parameters called Eight Core Pillars based on the model of Michael E Porter, a Bishop William Lawrence

Professor at Harvard University, the United States. The  eight pillars are demography, education, health and medical standards, safety, housing options, socio-cultural natural environment, economic environment and planned environment.

According to survey the index studied the urban and rural factors that define the living potential of cities across the country.

This survey rates on the parameters of how much a city offers favourable living environment to its residents and indirectly benefits and attracts visitors.

This poor liveable rating of Patna may come in the way of attracting more investment for which Bihar is still struggling.
