BJP flays Abhayanand’s letter on Bihari CRPF officers

Patna,(BiharTimes): A letter from director general of police Abhayanand to his Central Reserve Police Force counterpart requesting him that “CRPF officers belonging to Bihar should not be posted in the state for anti-Naxal operations” has come under strong criticism from the BJP, which termed it as an insult to the Bihari pride.

Abhayanand’s letter dated November 19, 2013, to CRPF DG Dilip Trivedi, followed
the revelation that an Assistant Commandant with the 159 Battalion of the CRPF, Sanjay Yadav, had leaked out crucial information to Maoists on the location and operations of the para-military forces and police in Gaya district in October last year.

As reported earlier Sanjay had leaked information to Pradeep Yadav, a resident of Imamganj block of Gaya district and a main source of information and materials to Maoists.

According to reports the Special Task Force of the Bihar Police intercepted talks between Sanjay and Pradeep, in which the locations of CoBRA and central para-military forces were discussed.

The news came as a big blow and affected the anti-Naxal operations, especially in the forested area of Magadh division where the ultras are strong.

Abhayanand’s letter also demanded the relocation of the 159 Battalion outside the state.

The copy of DGP’s letter has also been sent to the Prime Minister Office and Union home ministry, which is the reporting authority of the CRPF.

But the BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has strongly criticized the Nitish Kumar government on this count. This is not only an insult to the Bihari pride, about which Nitish Kumar talks so much, but it also shows how much mistrust the chief minister has on the police of Bihari origin.

He said it is shocking that Nitish Kumar has victimised all Biharis for the fault of just one Bihari officer of CRPF, Sanjay Yadav. He urged the chief minister to apologize to the people of Bihar and withdraw the DGP’s letter.

The leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, also asked the chief minister to apologize and stop humiliating Biharis. The letter is downright condemnable, he added.
