Bihar-Jharkhand region once again excels in Income Tax collection


Patna,(BiharTimes): Thanks to increase in the number of searches against tax evaders in the current financial year Bihar-Jharkhand region of Income Tax department has once again registered highest growth in tax collection, compared to other regions in the country.
This region achieved 23.9 per cent growth at the end of December, 2013, compared to an average 13.4 per cent growth at all India level. Bangalore is the only region, apart from Bihar-Jharkhand, which achieved more than 20 per cent growth against all India target of 19 per cent.
Sources said that Bihar-Jharkhand had achieved the highest growth of 27.9 per cent of tax collection at the end of November, 2013. But it fell by four per cent at the end of December, 2013. Income tax collection in Bihar-Jharkhand region has been maintaining growth for the last few months because of increase in the number of searches against tax evaders in the current financial year.
Fourteen searches were carried out between April and December 2013, in comparison to just six searches in the same period in 2012. In fact, it is larger than the ten search operations carried out in 2012-13.
Income Tax sources also said that total seizure of cash between April and December, 2013 went up to Rs 10.91 crore compared to Rs 3.04 crore during the same period in the last financial year. The undisclosed income admitted by assessees after searches went up to Rs 149.32 crore in 14 searches compared to only Rs 41.25 crore during the same period in last financial year.
