S S Ahluwalia likely to throw his hat in the RS election from Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Union minister S S Ahluwalia, a member of the Shouting Brigade of Congress in the Rajya Sabha during the Rajiv Gandhi years, is likely to throw his hat in the election for the second seat for the Upper House of Parliament.

Of the five seats to be vacated three belong to JD(U), one to BJP and one to RJD. However, RJD, with just 22 MLAs, is not in a position to re-elect any member. The BJP, with 91 MLAs, can send two.

While the former Union health minister, Dr C P Thakur, is likely to be renominated as the BJP candidate it is for the second seat that several names are coming up.

Ahluwalia had unsuccessfully contested election from Jharkhand last time.Reports now said that on January 16, he, in a telephone call to Bihar BJP chief, Mangal Pandey, intimated him about his desire to seek nomination from the state on one of the two seats.

It needs to be mentioned that Pandey then went on to attend the two day national council meeting of the BJP in New Delhi, which concluded on Sunday.

What transpired in New Delhi could not be known, but if Ahluwalia gets the party's nomination, the national executive member and an old claimant Ravindra Kishore Sinha, and general secretary Surajnandan Kushwaha may lose the race.
