“Jehangiri ghanti” to be installed outside police officials home in Darbhanga zone

Patna,(BiharTimes): Following the initiative of the Zonal Inspector General of Police Arvind Pandey the police in Darbhanga zone of Bihar has introduced “Jehangiri ghanti (bell)” at the residence of all the officials.

Anyone in distress can press it for action any time in day or night.

Arvind Pandey, who took up as the Zonal IG recently, was quoted by the news agency PTI as saying the emergency bell is known as “Jehangiri ghanti” as it resembled the concept of “insaaf ka ghanta” (bell of justice) that was placed outside the palace of Mughal emperor Jehangir.

He said that he got a similar bell with identification “Jehangiri bell” written below it fixed at his official residence on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day on Sunday. This is a dedicated call bell and to distinguish it from regular bell the name Jehangiri bell is written below it for easier identification.

Similar bell has to be set up by all police officials from IG down to Inspector rank.

Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Purnea, Katihar, Kisangangj, Araria, Supaul, Madhepura and Saharsa are the 10 districts, which fall in the Darbhanga police zone.

“The distressed need not wait for the office to start in the day or visit an officer on the day fixed for organising Janata Darbar for redressal of problem," he said adding that the IG would monitor implementation of the order regularly and act against officials found violating it.

Arvind Pandey had taken similar new steps during his earlier posting in Muzaffarpur too.
