Retiring JD (U) RS MPs given two days ultimatum to take decision on contesting LS poll

Patna,(BiharTimes): The three retiring Janata Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MPs, who have been denied renomination have been asked to decide within two days whether they want to contest Lok Sabha election as asked by the leadership or not.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar and state unit JD (U) president Bashistha Narain Singh on Tuesday said they have to take a final decision within two days.

Nitish, while talking to the media in the state Assembly on Tuesday, said no offer is for unlimited period. Two more days are left for the three leaders to decide.

The state party chief also said the same thing to the media. Both he and CM were present at the time of filing of nomination papers by three new RS candidates of the party, Ramnath Thakur, Harivansh and Kahkashan Parween. They replace N K Singh, Shivanand Tiwari and Sabir Ali, who have been asked to contest Lok Sabha election from Banka, Buxar and Sheohar constituencies respectively.

While the first two have virtually rejected the offer and questioned the manner in which they were asked to contest Sabir Ali was incidentally present in the Assembly. He even had a talk with the chief minister before the latter left for Belchi in Nalanda district to inaugurate a power project.

The retiring MPs said on the condition of anonymity that they felt humilitated and insulted by the way the party leadership is treating them after they had served the party so earnestly. They said that they had not yet been given at least six months time to nurse the constituencies from which they are to contest the election. They are extremely upset over the manner in which Nitish Kumar is running the state government as well as the party.

Grapevine is doing the rounds that the three MPs, along with several legislators, may raised an open banner of revolt. Several Lok Sabha MPs have already decided to leave the party and contest either on BJP or RJD ticket.

Political observers are appalled by the way the three retiring MPs have been asked to contest the LS election. If they really agree to contest what will the party do? Will the Janata Dal (United) put them up after so much public humiliation? it is being asked.
