Arrested, released, reinstated on same post: Is this the result of fight against corruption?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Throwing the rules to the wind a head clerk arrested on the charge of corruption more than six years back has been reinstated on the same post in the same office. This is not first such case in the state.

This fact came to the light during the review of corruption cases at a high-level meeting headed by chief secretary A K Sinha recently. The meeting was convened on the instruction of chief minister Nitish Kumar.

According to reports Krishnadev Paswan, a head clerk and accountant in the Dehri Nagar Parishad office in Rohtas district, was caught red-handed by a vigilance bureau team while accepting Rs 1,900 as bribe from Sudhir Kumar Rawat in his office on June 14, 2007.

He was produced before a special vigilance court in Patna and subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

Paswan was released on bail after one-and-a-half years. Few days later, he was reinstated in the same post in the same office from where he was arrested by the special trap team constituted by the bureau’s headquarters in Patna. Since then, Paswan has been discharging his duties at the Dehri Nagar Parishad office.

As per the rule the public servants caught in the corruption cases should not be posted in the same office ever after their suspension is revoked. All the departments concerned have been sent letters in this regard.

Ironically, such cases are repeatedly coming to light in the state, which boasts of enacting law to confiscate the property of corrupt officials and open schools in them.
