10 new VCs appointed in Bihar


Patna,(BiharTimes): The Governor-cum-Chancellor, D Y Patil, on Thursday evening appointed Yedla C Simhadri as the new Vice Chancellor (VC) of Patna University while Mohammad Ishtiyaque was chosen to head Magadh University. In all 10 VCs and nine pro-VCs have been appointed.

Prof Rash Bihari Prasad Singh has been appointed VC of Nalanda Open University, Patna. R P Upadhyaya was appointed as the pro-VC of Nalanda Open University while K Prasad of Magadh University.

Dwijendra K Gupta has been appointed as the VC of Jai Prakash University. Pandit P Palande will be the new VC of Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University while Neelima Sinha is the pro-VC.

The LNMU will be headed by S Kushwaha while S Mumtazuddin will be its pro-VC.

Azhar Husain and Leela C Saha are the new VC and pro VC of Veer Kuer Singh University respectively.
Prof Ejaz Ali Arshad and Mohammad T Alam are the new VC and pro VC of Maulana Mazhar-ul- Haque Arabic-Persian University.

Dev Narayan Jha and Prabha Kiran are the new VC and pro-VC of KSD Sanskrit University.

The Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University will be headed by R S Dubey while Awadh Kumar Rai will be its pro VC.

The appointment was finalised after a meeting between Governor and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday evening. It was attended by education minister P K Shahi.


Simhadri is a member of the Uniform Single Code Bill Committee of the Centre.

The appointment came several months after the Supreme Court had last year struck down appointments of many VCs including that of Shambhu Nath Singh of Patna University made by the previous Chancellor of Universities and Governor Debanand Konwar.

The Supreme Court had then directed to make fresh appointments in consultation with the state government.
