Bihar to create 1,743 medical faculty posts

Patna,(BiharTimes): The state cabinet on Tuesday cleared a health department’s proposal to create 1,743 faculty posts in six state run medical colleges.

The cabinet gave its nod for creation of 765 posts in NMCH, Patna, 200 at SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, 189 at DMCH, Darbhanga, 183 at PMCH Patna and 203 each at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur and Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Gaya.

Most of the news posts created are for cardiology, neurology, nephrology, neuro-surgery, physiotherapy and geriatrics departments.

The annual intake for PMCH in 2013-14 was 150, up from 100, and those for the NMCH and SKMCH from 50 to 100.

The Medical Council of India last year allowed the six state-run medical colleges to admit a total 650 MBBS students. However, after inspection it had scaled it down to 540. The MCI took this decision as it found that there are shortage of faculty and lack of infrastructure in these colleges.

It recently banned admission in IGIMS, Patna, Government Medical College and Vardhaman Institute of Medical Science at Pawapuri in Nalanda district.
