Bihar to launch drive against illegal sale of Oxytocin

Patna,(BiharTimes): The minister in-charge for Health, Vijay Chaudhary, told the Bihar Assembly on Friday that the state government would launch a special drive against illegal sale of the Oxytocin, which is used to extract milk from cattle and in vegetables.

Replying to a question of Abdul Bari Siddiqui (RJD) the minister said besides banning the open sale of Oxytocin in the state on the direction of the Union government from March 2014, only veterinary hospitals have been authorised to keep it.

Oxytocin has harmful side effects and causes impotency.

However, according to Siddiqui, despite ban it is being sold openly. He asked the government to adopt tough measures to stop use of this harmful medicine for health of citizens. The RJD leader cited example of European countries who have stopped import of veggies from India suspecting the usage of Oxytocin.
