Parties denounce BJP leader’s remarks on importing brides from Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): The reported remarks by the BJP’s National Kisan Morcha president O P Dhankar about bringing brides for youths of Haryana from Bihar has created storm in the state with opposition parties denouncing it.

In Vaishali, where the Rashtriya Janata Dal concluded its two-day training camp on Sunday, a resolution was passed condemning the utterances. Party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav called it a “ganda bayan” (vulgar statement) whereas his party’s spokesman Manoj Jha said it is not only an insult to the people or women of Bihar, but to that of the entire country.

Manoj Jha said that media should also take the responsibility for this lowering of standard of politicians. It is the media which gave publicity to the people of such mentality. Today a man has become the prime minister of the country by indulging in such loose talks.

In contrast the BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, defended Dhankar claiming that it was twisted by the media in a different way and he had said nothing objectionable.

However, the saffron party’s Patliputra MP, Ram Kripal Yadav, called it highly objectionable and said: “I am saying this with much pain that the BJP leaders should avoid giving such statement.”

Dhankar had on Friday, while addressing the Kisan Mahasammelan at Narwana in Haryana said that the BJP would get women from Bihar to ensure all men in Haryana get married.

He has been quoted in the media as saying: “Sushil Modi mera yaar hai, rishtey karwaenge to dhang se karwaenge, yahan wahan se lena-dena churva denge.” (Sushil Modi is a good friend of mine, we will ensure a compatitble match and do away with bringing brides from anywhere).

“Main jab chunav kshetra main ghoom raha tha to har gao mai bata rahe the Bihar se la rahe hain.” (While touring my constituency during elections, we went to each house in the villages and said that brides will be brought from Bihar).

While Janata Dal (United) spokesmen Ajay Alok and Neeraj Kumar said that it reflects the mental degeneration of the BJP leaders the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Ali Anwar, demanded the arrest of Dhankar.

On the other hand defending Dhankar Bihar BJP leader Sushil Modi said that poor girls from Bihar are being lured into marriage. Such brides do not get respect. Dhankar had said that “we would stop this sale and purchase of girls and should instead encourage proper and legal process of marriage.”
SuMo said that this amounts to giving respect to the women and should be supported. Instead high level probe should be made into this illegal supply of brides from Bihar, he added.

On the other hand the media incharge of the Congress party, Prem Chand Mishra, wondered how is it that Sushil Modi is now defending such a person. This is surprising and shocking.

Reports said that even the BJP allies like Shiv Sena and Shrimoni Akali Dal have strongly criticized the statement of Dhankar, who is said to be close to Narendra Modi.
