No end to Giriraj’s trouble in sight

Patna,(BiharTimes): By claiming that the stolen amount of Rs 1.14 crore belongs to his cousin (brother) BJP MP, Giriraj Singh, has landed himself and his party in further trouble. The former chief minister Rabri Devi got an opportunity to tease him by asking whether his house was functioning as a bank, where such huge amount of money, dollars and jewellery are deposited.

The Income Tax department has already moved into the scene and the Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Gupteshwar Pandey, said that the police may interrogate Giriraj Singh if needed. But that is possible after the return of the Nawada MP from New Delhi.

Now that he had said that the amount belongs not to him but to his cousin Giriraj can not deny that the amount was not stolen from his house and that the police is trying to implicate him. Yet he at the same breath went on to allege that the whole story has been cooked up as a part of conspiracy.

He has now landed his cousin in trouble. The MP has conceded that the amount was in his house. How prudent it was for any elected representative to put such a huge amount in the almirah and leave it at the hands of servants and guards. Now his wife is saying that the jewellery belongs to her and should be returned. Where was his family members when the amount and jewellery were stolen?
Police sources said that Giriraj will have to come up with proof that the stolen amount was actually of his cousin. After all even a layman, not to speak of respected MP, would simply agree to keep such huge amount of money in his or her own house.

His political opponents are now stating that their might have been more money in this flat and other houses of the MP. Therefore, raids should be carried out and Giriraj be arrested.

In the state Assembly and Council the BJP legislators once again tried to distract the attention by raising the issue of Sasaram police firing they failed to cut much ice. The Giriraj episode, after O P Dhankar’s statement on importing brides from Bihar, continued to haunt its members.

The RJD, JD(U) and Congress leaders are getting vicarious satisfaction in targeting Giriraj as he was a very sharp-tongued critic of Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad and Gandhi family. It was Giriraj who demanded a probe into Nitish Kumar’s Pakistan visit and recently even went on to suggest that all those opposing NaMo should be pushed to that neighbouring country.

He is considered close to Narendra Modi, but is a known critic of former deputy CM, Sushil Kumar Modi and several other state BJP leaders too.

So this camp in the saffron party is not interested in coming to his defence. What is of concern for them is that he had landed the whole party in this very embarrassing position. Nobody now wants to land the party in further trouble by siding with him.

The JD(U) has got an opportunity to overcome its own crisis and the rebels are now keeping a low profile as they were getting moral support from the saffron party. The RJD too has gone all out against the BJP for obvious political reasons.
