Manjhi, Nitish, Lalu flay Modi govt’s first budget

Patna,(BiharTimes): There is nothing for Bihar in particular and country in general, in the first budget of the Narendra Modi government. This was how the Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, his predecessor Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad reacted after Union finance minister Arun Jaitley presented it in Parliament on Thursday.

The chief minister said that the budget has disappointed the people of Bihar as there is nothing special for the state. Its demand for a special status was also ignored. The allocation made for agriculture sector is too meagre.

Nitish too said that the there was no reference to accord a special category status to Bihar, which is a backward and poor state. Thus it is quite clear that ‘acheche din’ (good days) are not going to come.

According to him the main thrust of the budget is to help developed states and ignore and neglect poor and backward ones. There is no reference on how to help Bihar sustain a high growth rate.

The former chief minister said Bihar would not be benefited from the budget as it neither focuses on agriculture nor on tourism or heritage sector. For example, there is no reference to help Nalanda University, which is a central government project. Places like Rajgir and Vaishali have been ignored while drawing up the Buddhist circuit.

On the other hand RJD chief Lalu Prasad said it is the most confusing budget. He asked how can the country prosper when Bihar is ignored?
