Giriraj records statement to police, says money belongs to his cousin

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Nawada Giriaj Singh on Saturday recorded his statement to Patna Police at Shri Krishnapuri Police Station, claiming the money belonged to his businessman cousin.

He was accompanied by Nagpur-based real estate businessman, Rakesh Singh, said to be his cousin.

Coming out of police station he told the mediapersons that the money belonged to his cousin. This is what he told the police.

Patna Traffic Superintendent of Police Rajiv Mishra, who is officiating as Senior Superintendent of Police, as well as the City SP, Asish Bharti, were present inside police station.

The SSP told reporters that the MP told them that the money belonged to his cousin and that he would submit the documents in this regard later in the day.

The MP was in the police station for half an hour.

Interestingly the MP said he was not aware about the money kept in the flat. His younger brother Jairaj Singh was aware that Rakesh Singh has kept the money which is business-related payment, he reportedly told the Police

On the recovery of 600 US dollar, Rajiv Mishra said the police would look if Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) was applicable or not.

The Nawada MP said that his wife has already claimed to police the ornaments recovered belonged to her.

It needs to be recalled that the police recovered Rs 1.14 crore cash, 600 US dollar and jewellery four hours after the theft was committed in Giriraj’s Boring Road flat on July 7 afternoon. The MP went to Delhi on the same morning to attend Parliament session.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax department has asked for a copy of FIR from Patna Police.
