Bihar third from top in cancer-related deaths in country

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar recorded third largest number of cancer cases and death related to this disease.  According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data 11,17,269 cases of cancer have been reported till now in 2014. 

Uttar Pradesh with 1.8 lakh reported highest number of cases to be followed by Maharashtra which recorded 1.02 lakh cases, Bihar (98,346), West Bengal (84,325), and Andhra Pradesh (80,334).

In 2013, a total of 10,86,783 cases were reported across India while 10,57,204 cases were reported in 2012 and 10,28,503 in 2011. Thus 2014 is going to record much larger number of cancer cases.

The report released by Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare said Uttar Pradesh tops the list with 82,121 cancer-related deaths (from 2011 till now) to be followed by Maharashtra (44,924), Bihar (43,272), West Bengal (37,103), Andhra Pradesh (35,347), Madhya Pradesh (29,846), Tamil Nadu (27,988), Karnataka (24,785), Gujarat (24,667), Jammu and Kashmir (19,792), Odisha (16,885), Jharkhand (13,645), Punjab (11,011), and Haryana (10,268).
